My Dear Friends,

After thinking, rethinking, and asking God for guidance, I have decided to not participate in these elections. My heart and my reason tell me I shouldn’t do it. I tried to understand what some of my friends told me about how the National Congress would fill up with golpistas, but in the end I believe that if I have fought against the coup d’etat, then to stay and participate now–I may as well have been with them on June 28th. The best thing I can do is withdraw my candidacy. I know that I am disappointing many friends, but my conscience would not let me rest. To go to vote is to validate the coup d’etat, it is to whitewash it. I withdraw my candidacy with my head held high, having done my duty. I know that in the 23 municipalities of my department [state] there are projects pending, and I have done everything possible, making no distinctions, only thinking in the history of our department. My conduct can be verified on the website of Democracy Without Borders, where I am among the highest ranked nationwide and ranked first for Copán; or by visiting the different municipalities and speaking with the vast majority of our people and of our beloved and respected mayors. I do not say this to boast; I will return to my family life, with the satisfaction of having done my job, remembering the happiness in the faces of our people when we inaugurated projects, and I will be happy on the day that justice is served and those who have destroyed our fragile democracy, who are responsible for the assassinations and the repression, for the huge fissure of our beloved Liberal Party–which today has been destroyed in the service of the powers that be–that those responsible for this coup d’etat are made to pay.

My compañeros in Resistance and I have long wanted to revert this coup d’etat but it has been impossible. Even when the Tegucigalpa/San Jose Accord demanded the return of the government and powers in place prior to June 28th, the political will was lacking in the National Congress, in the executive committee, excluding Erick Rodriguez, Carolina Echeverria and me, who opposed sending the issue to the Supreme Court, Attorney General of the Republic and Solicitor General of the Republic because political accords do not require a legal opinion as stipulated by the Constitution of the Republic and in the end such an opinion would not be binding. If President Zelaya accepted this accord, even though he was bound hands and feet, he only did so to revert the coup d’Etat. And although the OAS demanded the restitution of President Zelaya at the end of 72 hours, they did not comply.

Just as when I signed a letter in support of the reinstatement of President Zelaya, my compañeros from Copan did not want to sign it, the same has occurred with the majority of congressmen and women from other departments, who have maintained two positions from the start, tricking the people. I will make available the letter so the people can know which of us signed it, and to make clear that if the congressmen and women who supported the coup d’etat cannot find the time to reinstate President Zelaya because they are too busy with their political campaigns, then I don’t have time to support these elections and elect a new president, just so the Army can remove him at their convenience.

I cannot participate in these elections or remain on the ballot, knowing that President Zelaya remains in the Embassy of Brazil, surrounded by a military cordon with all his rights violated, having lost 26 pounds because when they allow him his food they only let the breakfast come through at 3 in the afternoon, handled by the soldiers and sniffed by their dogs…Why go forth with elections if the powers that be have joined up with the military to remove a constitutionally elected president, have falsified his signature on a resignation letter as he made clear upon his extradition to Costa Rica, violating once again the Constitution of the Republic which prohibits the extradition of any Honduran, when they invented his supposed crimes after the coup d’etat, with an attorney general who does not want to act, who ignores the crimes being committed against the president and against the nation, in an environment of violation of freedom of expression, with the media silence and with the numerous forms of persecution faced by those of us who oppose the coup?

On the 24th I have a meeting with representatives of human rights organizations from Brussels and Costa Rica, and on the 25th I will be presenting my resignation in the TSE [Supreme Electoral Tribunal]. Thank you for your support and understanding.

Mis Queridos Amigos/as

Después de pensarlo, repensarlo, pedirle a Dios que me guíe, he decidido no participar, en estas elecciones mi corazón y la razon me dice que no debo hacerlo, quise entender lo que algunos amigos me decían en relación a que el CN se llenara de golpistas, pero al final creo que si he luchado contra el Golpe de Estado y quedarme participando es lo mismo que hubiese estado ese 28 de junio, lo mejor que puedo hacer es Retirar mi candidatura, se que defraudare a muchos amigos, pero sentiría mas no estar tranquila con mi conciencia, ir a votar es validar el Golpe de Estado, es blanquearselo, me retiro con la frente en alto, del deber cumplido, se que para los 23 Municipios de mi Departamentos gestione proyectos, hice todo lo que fue posible, sin distingos de colores, solo pensando en cambiar la historia de nuestro Departamento, mi gestion la pueden verificar en la pagina Web de Democracia sin Fronteras, en donde se me califica en los Primeros lugares a nivel nacional y en el Primero de Copan, o visitar los diferentes Municipios, y hablar con nuestra gente o con nuestros queridos y respetados Alcaldes, en su gran mayoria. no quiero banagloriarme por ello, volvere a mi apacible vida familiar, recordando las grandes satisfacciones del deber cumplido, la alegria en los rostros de nuestra gente cuando inaugurabamos proyectos, y sere feliz el dia que se haga justicia y paguen los que hoy han destruido nuestra fragil democracia, los culpables de los asesinatos y de la represion. de la gran fisura de nuestro amado Partido Liberal, al que hoy lo han llevado a su destruccion y al Servicio de los Poderes facticos, los culpables de este Golpe de Estado.

Con mis Compañeros en Resistencia quisimos por mucho tiempo revertir este Golpe de Estado pero fue imposible, aun cuando el Acuerdo Tegucigalpa/San Jose manda retrotraer el Gobierno y los Poderes antes del 28 de junio, no hubo voluntad Política en el Congreso Nacional, La Junta Directiva excluyendonos Nosotros Erick Rodriguez, Carolina Echeverria y yo, que nos opusimos a enviarlo a la Corte Suprema, Fiscalía Gral de la Republica y Procuraduria Gral de la Republica porque los Acuerdos Politicos, no necesitan escuchar ninguna Opinión asi lo dice la Constitución de la Republica y al final esa Opinión no es vinculanlante
si el Presidente Zelaya aceptaba ese Acuerdo, aunque venia amarrado de pies y cabeza, solo se hacia para revertir el Golpe de Estado, y aunque la OEA, mandaba Restituir al Presidente Zelaya en el termino de 72 horas, tampoco se acato.

Asi como cuando firmamos una Carta en apoyo a la Restitucion del Presidente Zelaya, mis Compañeros de Copan no quisieron firmarla,lo mismo sucedio con la mayoria de los Diputados de otros Departamentos, teniendo desde un principio dos discursos, engañando al Pueblo, les haré llegar esa carta para que el Pueblo conozca quienes firmamos. significa pues que si los Diputados que apoyaron el golpe de Estado no tuvieron tiempo de Restituir al Presidente Zelaya por andar en campaña política, yo tampoco tengo tiempo para apoyar estas elecciones y elegir a un nuevo Presidente, para que el Ejercito lo quite cuando no les convenga.

No puedo participar en estas elecciones o quedarme en esa planilla de Diputados , sabiendo que el Presidente Zelaya sigue en la Embajada de Brasil, con ese fuerte cordón militar, en donde le violan todos sus derechos, ha rebajado 26 libras ,porque cuando le permiten sus alimentos se los dejan pasar a las 3pm el desayuno manoseado por los militares y olfateado por los perros, y entonces para que ir a eleccciones si cuando los Poderes se pongan de acuerdo con los militares procederan a Destituir a un Presidente electo Constitucionalmente, y le falsificaran su firma en una Renuncia, como El lo ha manifestado cuando lo extraditaron a Costa Rica, violando una vez mas la Constitucion de la Republica, que prohibe la Extradicion de cualquier hondureño, le inventaron delitos posteriormente al Golpe de Estado, con una fiscalía que no quiere actuar,que no ve los delitos que le cometen al Presidente y al Pueblo, en un ambiente de violacion a la Libertad de Expresión, con Medios silenciados y con la persecución de diferentes formas a los que nos oponemos al Golpe.

Asi que el dia 24 tengo una Reunion con Representantes de DDHH que vienen de Bruselas y de Costa Rica , este 25 estaré presentando mi Renuncia en el TSE. Gracias por su apoyo y comprension.
